Welcome to the Biology Department where we relate with each other as one big family. As it is with large families, those who hover at or around the periphery do not share in all of the excitement of the truly committed members.

I urge you therefore to take full advantage of all the opportunities the Department affords you. As you journey with us, our dedicated School members are committed to provide you with the scaffolding you need to transform your dreams into reality. Some of what is required may be hard work, but with tenacity coupled with the willingness to learn, you can excel.

Our academic interests span scales of organization from molecules to ecosystems, and our taxonomic breadth touches all domains of living things.

My mission statement therefore as a Head of Department of Biology is to see that we build a community for a better department that serves and represents all of the staff, students and stakeholders. We will do our best to ensure that we remain committed to a vision- “ensuring that we always endeavor to inspire discovery for a better world”.
